Stephen Byrd of Pearl signs with Hinds baseball
03/17/08 Stephen Byrd of Pearl, a right-handed pitcher/middle infielder at Pearl High School, has signed a baseball scholarship with the Hinds Community College baseball program for the 2008-2009 season.
Byrd is the number one pitcher for the Pirates, currently ranked sixth in the state of Mississippi according to The Clarion-Ledger. Byrd, who bats in the number two spot in the Pearl lineup, is also a standout second baseman who excels at contact and getting on base.
"Stephen is someone that we have targeted for a while now," said Hinds coach Sam Temple. "He is an outstanding competitor who is able to throw three pitches for a strike at any time. He will provide immediate help to our bullpen and our starting rotation next season." |
