Pearl High School's baseball field sits along Pirate Cove on the North Side of the Pearl High School Campus. The Field was built in 1996 and has now been the home of the Pirates for the last eight years. New additions have been added to the field to upgrade it in efforts to reach our goal of making it the best high school facility in Mississippi.

he Baseball Field was named Pirate Park before the 2000 season. The Playing surface of Pirate Park is Tifway Burmuda Grass which is overseeded with Perennial Rye Grass during the winter. The skinned areas are covered with SAF Coat, a crushed red stone material that is marketed by Southern Athletic Fields from Columbia, TN.

The mound, plate areas, and baselines were made with a red clay which is also sold by Southern Althletic Fields and then covered with SAF Coat to match the colors of the infield material. During the Fall of 2000, we installed a 12 foot warning trac which circles the entire field. The material used for this project is called SAF Trac and can be purchased though Southern Athletic Fields.

Pirate Park is symetical in its deminsions, measureing 320 feet down each foul line, 345 feet in both left center and right center, and 360 feet to straight away center field. Pirate Park also has plenty of foul territory. Originally, the field had 55 feet of foul territory in all areas of the field, however as the warning track was installed this year the fences along the left and right field lines were taken in to reduce this area. The fence now angles into 12 feet foul in the right and left field corners.

A 30' x 30' two story press box sits directly behind homeplate with concession stand and bathrooms on the first floor and Pressbox and storage area on the top floor. Elevated Aluminum bleachers are located between the press box and the dugouts on both sides. Seating Capacity is approximately 500 in the bleachers plus almost unlimited lawn chair seating.

There have been many other additions to Pirate Park over the last couple of years. In 1999, a nine inning scoreboard was added. Also that year new 30 foot foul poles were added and the stripe was added to the fence. New Bullpens mounds and catchers areas were installed also that year.

The biggest and best addition to Pirate Park in the past three years has been the construction of a new locker room facility behind the third base dugout. This building which is 52' x 36' (1872 sqare feet) was built solely by the fundraising efforts of the PHS Diamond Club along with some generous Donations of individuals and buisnesses from Pearl. The building contains a locker room for the players, a coaches office, two restrooms, and a laundry room. The building was built through many hours of hard work by the players, coaches, and the expert help of several men.
